The popular British singer-songwriter, Ed Sheeran, has found himself in the midst of a copyright lawsuit involving his hit song, “Thinking Out Loud,” which has been accused of copying Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” In a New York courtroom, the pop star took the witness stand to deny these allegations (AP News).
The heirs of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote “Let’s Get It On” with Gaye, have accused Sheeran of borrowing the melody for his hit song. The trial continues, and Sheeran has even played guitar and sang during his testimony. He defended his creative process and denied any intentional copying (CNN).
Despite this ongoing legal battle, Sheeran is gearing up to release his latest album, “Subtract,” which is said to be influenced by his experience with grief. The Guardian reported that Sheeran was “so emotional” during the making of the album, which was coincidentally being created during his US copyright trial.
In light of his new album release, Sheeran has also announced an intimate North American tour where he will perform in smaller venues, giving his fans a more personal experience (AS USA).
For fans eagerly anticipating Sheeran’s new music, they won’t have to wait much longer as the album is set for release soon. Sheeran also announced that he will be performing in Philadelphia at The Met Philly, the night before his concert at Lincoln Financial Field (The Philadelphia Inquirer).
Although the copyright lawsuit has added a layer of controversy to Sheeran’s career, it hasn’t stopped him from continuing to create and connect with his fans through his music.
