Twisted Metal

Peacock is joining the video game adaptation wars with the upcoming live action comedy series Twisted Metal. The show, based on a PS1-era vehicular warfare simulator, premiered its first teaser trailer on Tuesday (Collider). The trailer features Anthony Mackie, best known for playing Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, driving down a highway to hell in a car with a mounted machine gun. Mackie plays the character of John Doe, a smartass milkman who is hired to deliver a package (Digital Spy).

Twisted Metal fans can start their engines as all ten episodes of the show will premiere in July (IGN, The Hollywood Reporter). The show’s first teaser also gave viewers the first look at the live-action version of Sweet Tooth, the diabolical clown who drives an ice cream truck loaded with explosives (GameSpot, PC Gamer). However, fans may be wondering about the appearance of a Subaru in the trailer as it seems to have no connection to the original video game franchise. (Jalopnik)

Twisted Metal has been described as a “bonkers” video game adaptation (TVLine). It is not the first time the series has been adapted for the screen. In 2012, a Twisted Metal movie was announced, but it never came to fruition (Collider). Peacock’s adaptation, however, has generated a lot of buzz and excitement among fans of the video game and the action-comedy genre. The show will be Peacock’s first venture into video game adaptations and will be a streaming-only TV series (Engadget).

Overall, the highly anticipated TV adaptation of the iconic video game franchise seems to promise to amaze and entertain audiences with its mix of action, humor, and outlandish vehicles.
