Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is currently in the midst of a high-profile copyright trial, wherein the heirs of the late Ed Townsend have accused him of borrowing from Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” for his hit song “Thinking Out Loud” (The New York Times). Sheeran took the witness stand, singing and playing guitar during his defense against the allegations (ABC News). Despite the trial, Sheeran is also preparing to release a new album titled Subtract, which he describes as a “stark album informed by grief” (The Guardian).
In addition to his legal troubles, Sheeran is also slated to perform at several upcoming concerts in the US. He will be playing a stadium show at Lincoln Financial Field on June 3rd, as well as a more intimate show at Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Hall (Philadelphia Inquirer, Tampa Bay Times). Furthermore, in between dates of his forthcoming stadium tour, Sheeran will be performing special theater shows in 14 markets (Variety).
Sheeran’s music continues to captivate audiences around the world, with “Thinking Out Loud” earning him the Grammy for Song of the Year in 2016. Despite the allegations of copyright infringement, Sheeran’s fans remain loyal and eagerly anticipate the release of Subtract (AP News).
