Susan Rice, President Joe Biden’s domestic policy advisor will step down from her role next month, according to numerous current and former senior officials (NBC News). Biden praised Rice’s work on his domestic policy council where she has led since the start of his administration, overseeing a wide range of policies (CBS News).
Rice, who also served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, has helped the Biden administration with expanding the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, among other initiatives (Politico).
During her tenure, Rice faced criticism for her previous role as the Obama administration’s national security advisor during the attacks in Benghazi that killed four Americans in 2012 (National Review).
Rice’s departure from the White House comes amidst reports of staff shake-ups and resignations within the Biden administration. It is unclear who will replace Rice as the White House domestic policy advisor (Wall Street Journal).
Despite criticism and political backlash, Rice remains a trailblazer as the highest-ranking Black woman in the federal government and has been a prominent figure in American politics and international diplomacy in recent years (Yahoo News).
