Record Store Day

On April 22nd, 2023, over 1,400 record stores across the United States will celebrate Record Store Day (USA Today). This annual event provides an opportunity for independent record shops to showcase their unique culture and offer exclusive vinyl LP releases to customers (Axios). Local stores in cities such as Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Nashville are preparing for the day by stocking up on the 300 new releases available (WGRZ, Nashville Scene).

Taylor Swift’s “Long Pond Sessions” is among the most anticipated releases of this year’s Record Store Day (Variety, Philadelphia Inquirer). The exclusive vinyl-only release will be available at indie record stores (Philadelphia Inquirer). Other noteworthy releases include Pearl Jam, Elton John, and vintage Rolling Stones albums (Variety, Peoria Journal Star). In total, there will be 10 exclusives worth digging for, as reported by Billboard.

To help customers plan their shopping, the Chicago Reader provides a guide listing the shops participating in Record Store Day and an interactive map (Chicago Reader). Record stores in the Twin Cities are also preparing community events for the day (Axios). Additionally, three new record shops in the Milwaukee area will celebrate their first Record Store Day (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).

Vinyl records have seen a boost in sales over the years, making Record Store Day even more significant for indie record shops (WGRZ).
