Manchester City

Manchester City has secured a place in the Champions League semi-finals after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against German champions Bayern Munich (The Guardian). This secured a 4-1 aggregate victory over the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal (AS USA). Defending Premier League champions, Manchester City, had already secured a 3-0 win against Bayern Munich at the Etihad stadium in the first leg of the quarterfinal – a result that meant the German side’s hopes of progressing were on borrowed time (Penn Live).

City’s victory saw them face Real Madrid for a place in the final of this season’s Champions League. Before the semifinals, City had to see off Bayern Munich, and they did so impressively. The Athletic reported that in the first leg of the quarterfinal, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane got on the scoresheet to put City 2-0 up before Phil Foden’s goal in the second leg eased nerves for Pep Guardiola’s men.

In the second leg, Bayern put up a good fight, but City came back stronger in the second half (The Guardian). Kevin De Bruyne, Gundogan, and Raheem Sterling dominated Bayern’s defense, and their relentless pressure saw City take the lead in the 28th minute through De Bruyne (The Guardian). Despite Equalling the score through Robert Lewandowski’s equalizer, Bayern, as stated by The New York Times, did little against City, who produced another impressive display.

Now, with a semi-final date against Real Madrid looming, City’s star players will have to continue their form. Fortunately, it is reported that they have no significant injuries, putting them in a strong position ahead of the clash (ESPN). The winner of that fixture will progress to the final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 28 May 2023.
