Dr. Charles Frazier Stanley, a prominent Atlanta church leader and founder of In Touch Ministries, has passed away at the age of 90 (FOX5 Atlanta, Christianity Today, Atlanta Journal-Constitution). Stanley, who served as a pastor at the First Baptist Church Atlanta, was well-known for his skills as an orator and as a religious broadcaster (Atlanta Journal-Constitution, CBN). He was also a former Southern Baptist Convention president and one of the nation’s foremost television and radio preachers (The Pathway).
Though he faced loud criticism for his conservative viewpoints, Stanley remained steadfast in his faith and led his congregation with what was described as “stubborn faith” (Christianity Today). In fact, he even took a punch to the face for his church many years ago (Christianity Today).
The First Baptist Church of Atlanta community is mourning the loss of this iconic pastor, as news of his death spreads across the city and nation (11Alive, WYFF, WSB-TV). The exact cause of his death has not been released.
