Minnesota Wild Prevail in Thrilling 2OT Game Against Dallas Stars in Playoffs

The Minnesota Wild came out with a hard-earned victory in the first game of their first-round NHL playoff series against the Dallas Stars. Game one took place in Dallas, with the Wild outlasting the Stars in a double overtime thriller that lasted until past 1 a.m. central time. Ryan Hartman was the hero for the Wild, scoring the game-winning goal just over 12 minutes into the second overtime period (The Athletic).

However, the game was not without controversy. Early in the game, Minnesota’s Matt Dumba delivered a vicious hit on Joe Pavelski, leaving the Stars veteran struggling to get off the ice. This hit has left Pavelski’s status uncertain for the rest of the series (New York Post). Many Stars fans are calling for “Marchment justice” on Dumba, referring to a notorious hit from the past.

Regardless, the Wild’s victory can largely be attributed to their goalie, Cam Talbot, who made 50 saves throughout the game, including several clutch saves in overtime to keep the Wild in the game (Sports Illustrated). The Wild’s forwards also stepped up, with goals from Marcus Foligno and Kevin Fiala, in addition to Hartman’s game-winner (VAVEL.com).

This series is shaping up to be a heated battle between two teams fighting for their playoff lives. The Wild is looking to continue their momentum and come out on top in the series, while the Stars will be looking for redemption after their tough loss in game one. The Minnesota Wild will have their chance at another victory when the two teams face off again for game two of their series.
