Michael J. Fox on Maintaining Optimism Amid Parkinson’s Battle
Michael J. Fox, one of the most famous actors to emerge in the 1980s, has long been known for his public fight against Parkinson’s disease (CBS News). He recently opened up about the ongoing battle, candidly addressing the challenges and the effects on his mortality (Entertainment Tonight).
In an interview set to be broadcast on “CBS Sunday Morning” on April 30th, Fox discussed the progression of his Parkinson’s disease with Jane Pauley (Yahoo News). Diagnosed with the illness more than 30 years ago, the actor admitted that Parkinson’s is “getting harder” and “banging on the door” (KIRO 7, Entertainment Weekly).
Fox’s optimistic outlook, however, remains as he continues to confront the disease. In his documentary, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” which premiered at the SXSW Film & TV Festival, the actor stated that he does not feel sorry for himself and has no regrets (Fox News).
His personal life remains strong, with his wife of 34 years, Tracy Pollan, recently revealing the secrets to their long-lasting marriage (Fox News). After his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Pollan’s supportive reaction became a crucial part of their relationship’s strength (Fox News).
Scientific progress is also being made in the field of Parkinson’s research. With backing from the Michael J. Fox Foundation, researchers have discovered a biomarker that could potentially help identify and diagnose the disease, as well as lead to the development of future treatments (STAT News).
Despite the challenges, Fox’s story remains an inspiring example of maintaining optimism and determination in the face of adversity, even as he concedes that he might not live to be 80 years old (Vanity Fair).
