Peacock, the streaming service from NBCUniversal, has released the first teaser trailer for the highly anticipated TV adaptation of the popular video game “Twisted Metal.” Fans of the franchise have been eagerly anticipating this series, and the new trailer does not disappoint (Variety).
In the trailer, Anthony Mackie (known for his role as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) takes the wheel as John Doe, a “smart-ass milkman” who becomes the unlikely hero in the high-octane world of “Twisted Metal” (Collider).
The show, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland known as “Lost Vegas,” follows a group of individuals competing in the deadly and destructive Twisted Metal tournament, a vehicular combat competition where the last one standing wins (Digital Spy).
While Mackie may be the main star, the series wouldn’t be complete without the iconic character, Sweet Tooth, a diabolical clown who wreaks havoc with his ice cream truck (GameSpot). In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Sweet Tooth as Mackie’s character races down a “highway to hell” (GameSpot).
The TV adaptation may take some inspiration from other popular franchises, such as “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Inside the Magic notes that the humor and fast-paced action in the trailer feels similar to that of the popular Marvel films.
Peacock has announced that all ten episodes of the series will premiere in July (IGN). With the intense action and humor-filled trailer, fans of the franchise can hardly wait to tune in and see Mackie and the rest of the cast take on the dangerous and twisted world of “Twisted Metal.”
