Barry Manilow, the 79-year-old music icon and Grammy-award-winning artist, has big news. After a successful run off-Broadway, Manilow and his longtime collaborator, lyricist Bruce Sussman, have announced their musical, “Harmony,” is heading to Broadway this fall (The New York Times). The musical is about a German singing group that is upended by the rise of Nazism, and is based on a true story of a real-life performing troupe of Jews and gentiles who combined close harmonies and unique arrangements (Jewish Telegraphic Agency).
Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Warren Carlyle, “Harmony” features songs by Manilow and Sussman (Broadway World). The musical has been in the works for a long while, but it is now finally set for a Broadway debut in October (Deadline).
Manilow has been keeping himself busy, as he continues to perform and create music. In fact, he will celebrate his 60th anniversary in the industry this year (Yahoo News New Zealand). He will also be honored by the New York Pops orchestra with a special Carnegie Hall concert on May 1 (People).
