Talladega race

NASCAR fans were treated to a thrilling GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway over the weekend. After Denny Hamlin earned the pole position in Saturday’s qualifying session, Aric Almirola won Stage 2 on Sunday, thrilling the crowd who were on their feet cheering. Meanwhile, in the Xfinity race on Saturday, Blaine Perkins was in a scary crash, which saw his car rolling six times before he managed to climb out and thankfully walk away. Perkins was later taken to hospital for tests. Jeb Burton won the Ag-Pro 300 in the Xfinity Series, beating out the competition in a close battle. It wasn’t just the Cup and Xfinity races that provided excitement, though. In the ARCA Menards Series, Jesse Love claimed victory in the General Tire 200.

Talladega Superspeedway is well-known as a track where drivers need nerves of steel to come out on top. Three-wide racing can be treacherous, and this was in evidence in the Xfinity Series, where Derek Kraus and Parker Chase collided, collecting Parker Retzlaff and Anthony Alfredo. Meanwhile, in the NASCAR Cup Series, Hamlin was looking to secure his first win of the season, but it was Almirola who took the chequered flag.

As always with Talladega, there were thrills and spills across the weekend, but the crowds were kept entertained by the skill and bravery of the drivers who tackled the challenging circuit. Overall, it was a great weekend of racing and a reminder of why Talladega Superspeedway is such a popular venue among NASCAR fans.
