On Friday, Apple TV+ premiered its newest film, “Ghosted,” featuring Hollywood stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas (9to5Mac). The film is a romantic-comedy-turned-action-thriller, where the couple must fight for their lives after being betrayed by the government (USA Today). Evans, who is known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays the “damsel in distress,” while de Armas is the “badass” saving him (Variety).
Despite receiving mixed reviews, “Ghosted” has gained attention for its cameos from several of Evans’ MCU co-stars (POPSUGAR). Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Ryan Reynolds all make appearances in the film (Boston.com). In one scene, Evans’ character runs into the trio during a chase sequence (Esquire).
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, “Ghosted” has been described as an “action-heavy, paint-by-numbers” rom-com by The New York Times. Empire Online notes that while the film has its moments, it ultimately falls short in its attempt to combine action and romance seamlessly.
Although some critics have criticized the lack of chemistry between Evans and de Armas, Screen Rant argues that the movie comes to life every time a Marvel actor makes an appearance on screen. Despite mixed reviews, audiences can decide for themselves by streaming “Ghosted” on Apple TV+.
