USFL

The United States Football League (USFL) has begun its second season and is already off to a thrilling start. Last year, the USFL managed to do something that other spring football leagues could not: complete a full season (CBS Sports). This year, the league is hoping to continue building on its success and expanding its fan base.

On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Maulers faced off against the New Orleans Breakers in what was a closely contested game. Despite some impressive plays and highlights from both teams, the Maulers came out on top (FOX Sports). Fans were able to stream the USFL live or watch it on TV (Sports Illustrated).

The USFL has a rich history, having been founded in 1983 and operating for three seasons before folding due to financial struggles (Sportskeeda). Past edition winners include the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars, who won two championships (Sportskeeda). This year’s defending champions are the Birmingham Stallions, who defeated the New Jersey Generals in their season opener (New York Post).

The USFL features many former NFL players and coaches, including Doug Pederson, who attended his son’s USFL game as a tight end for the Houston Gamblers (ProFootballTalk). In fact, there are 16 former Miami Dolphins alone who are making their USFL debuts this season (Dolphins Wire).

Fans looking to keep up with the USFL can check out the league’s schedule for Week 1, which includes TV channels, times, and scores (Sporting News). As for the rest of the season, the USFL has eight teams competing in a 10-game schedule, with the top four advancing to the playoffs (CBS Sports).

While the USFL may not yet have the same level of prestige as the NFL, it is gaining a following and providing an exciting option for football fans during the offseason. And with the league completing a full season last year and starting its second season strong, it looks like the USFL is here to stay.
