Shawn Kemp

Former NBA star Shawn Kemp has been charged with first-degree assault in connection with a shooting last month in Tacoma, Washington. Kemp was arrested after the incident but was released the following day with no charges filed (Geo.tv). Pierce County prosecutors, however, have now charged the former Seattle SuperSonics star with assaulting a man in a parking lot outside a mall last month. Prosecutors allege that Kemp fired three rounds from a .357 revolver, hitting the victim once. The victim was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and released (UPI). Kemp’s lawyer claims that Kemp acted in self-defense (The Washington Post).

Kemp was a six-time NBA All-Star during his career and one of the most dynamic players of his era. He was known for his explosive athleticism and his ability to finish at the rim. Kemp played for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1989 to 1997, helping the team reach the NBA Finals in 1996. He also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Orlando Magic during his 14-year NBA career. Kemp retired from the NBA in 2003 (The Athletic).

Kemp’s legal troubles are not new. He has faced legal issues in the past, including drug charges and a paternity suit. However, Kemp is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Sonics history and remains popular among fans of the team. The news of his arrest has been met with sadness and disappointment by many Sonics fans (The Spun).

As of now, it is unclear what the future holds for Kemp. If convicted, he could potentially face serious prison time. However, it is also possible that he could be acquitted or reach a plea deal with prosecutors. For now, the former NBA star will have to wait and see how his legal situation plays out (NBA.com).
